A type of mite that is bothersome to humans and pets. They attatch when the host brushes past them in forested/high grass. After that they feed. Repellant/yard spray is the only way to combat ticks, if one is currently in the middle of a feeding it is very vital that tweezers or forceps are used as close to the skin as possible to avoid releasing more toxin-ridden blood into you.
